The small town of New Summerfield all began when Caley Amos Summers thought a major crossroad was a great opportunity for development. When a school was built, Mr. Summers began to sell lots and small acreage of his farm land for businesses and individuals. This began a fast development. At this time the town had no real name. The people in the community just called this town "Summer's Field." However, when the community received a new post office, it needed an official name, so the name New Summerfield was given.
In 1920, because New Summerfield had become a "boom town," the community established a new four-room brick school building at the present-day location of the school. This school served approximately fifty students. As the town slowly grows, the school does also. In the beginning of January of 2000, the high school students moved into their new building, which is located just south of the other campus buildings. The Class of 2000 bought an inlay for the middle of the commons area in the new high school building. During the fall of 2001, the library and distance learning lab were moved to the new media center. As of spring 2004 the new and much improved cafetorium opened.
