Program Overview

The iStudy initiative is aimed at students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The objectives for this program are to...

1. provide an Apple iPod for each student served by the program. Each student's iPod is loaded with multimedia content that is representative of all curriculum areas. Multimedia includes video clips, podcasts, and other interactive content that is both teacher-created and available on the World Wide Web. This content is chosen developed by the teachers in grades 6-8. The portable, anywhere/anytime nature of the delivery system guarantees that students have 24/7 access to their curriculum and extend their learning beyond the doors of our school.

2. provide Apple MacBooks for teachers so that these machines are used to share content via existing technology (Multimedia systems including projectors, screens, speakers are already in place in each classroom) and to create original content (podcasts, movies, and other presentations) using applications such as GarageBand and iMovie.

3. allow students the opportunity to create multimedia content with the MacBooks and pre-installed applications and to share information about their own learning with their peers via the rolling labs and the iPods.

4. provide meaningful staff development for participating staff members in how to develop instructional content that is effective in reinforcing their learning objectives, how to locate pre-existing content on the web, and to distribute this content to the students via the MacBooks, the synching stations, and the iPod Nano units.
